Women Building Success Awards

Funder: International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 (in partnership with NABTU and local building trades organizations)

Geographic Scope: Minnesota (Twin Cities area - Minneapolis)

Focus Areas: Recognition of outstanding women members in the building trades

Award Categories: Three nomination categories:

  • Apprentice of the Year - recognizes outstanding women apprentices

  • Journeyworker of the Year - recognizes outstanding women journey-level workers

  • Women's Advocate of the Year - recognizes women advocating for women in trades
  • Eligibility:

  • Must be a woman member of Local 49 or affiliated with the building trades

  • Must be in good standing
  • Background: Annual event celebrating achievements of women in the building trades. The 2019 event honored Local 49 apprentice Akeethia Brown as Apprentice of the Year. The Women Building Success event is hosted to recognize and celebrate women workers in the industry. The event includes ceremony and celebration with building trades community.

    How to Nominate:
    1. Fill out nomination form
    2. Email completed form to: jenny@mplsbctc.org

    Required Information in Nomination:

  • Nominee name and contact information

  • Category (Apprentice of the Year, Journeyworker of the Year, or Women's Advocate of the Year)

  • Justification and details about nominee's accomplishments and contributions
  • Timeline: Nomination deadline was historically February 15 (based on 2019 information), but current deadline unknown. Contact jenny@mplsbctc.org for current year deadline.

    Event: Annual celebration event (historically held in March, e.g., March 6, 2019 at Surly Brewing Company in Minneapolis)
