Weitz Family Foundation Since then over $50 million in awards have been granted to housing, arts, education and health organizations in Omaha, Nebraska. We work with grassroots agencies and large institutions who demonstrate vision, integrity, creativity and passion. We appreciate the use of servant leaders, so those we work with will use practices that enrich the lives of individuals, build better organizations and create a more just and caring world. The Weitz Family Foundation seeks to break the cycle of poverty in Omaha, NE by empowering individuals, agencies, and organizations to create a more equitable and peaceful society. The foundation seeks to identify and address the institutional and systemic injustices and gaps which fuel poverty. We seek new ideas and innovations in social change to address the core issues. Capacity Building Grants Innovation and big ideas are crucial for change-making and often require an infusion of funds to build the infrastructure of an organization, project, or program. We use larger grant amounts to support those organizations that can leverage these dollars into future abundance. Capacity Building proposals start at $21,000. These applications are more in-depth and require an established grantee relationship with the foundation.

Eligibility

Agencies that work in the Omaha metro area are eligible to apply. We do fund national organizations with satellites in Omaha.Multi-year requests for eligible organizations:Must have received a Weitz Family Foundation grant for 5 or more years, does not have to be consecutive.Engaging in advocacy, community organizing, or supporting collective action to address the root problems of poverty, racism, or other inequities OR is meeting a unique need to provide culturally competent and accessible direct services in Omaha.Actively working to improve their organization’s racial equity and accessibility.

Ineligibility

If your agency is located and works outside of Omaha, and particularly outside of Nebraska we will say No.We recognize that many people who use services in Omaha also live and work across the bridge and vice versa, unfortunately we have to draw some lines, and thus we will NOT fund agencies that are outside Omaha, including (but of course not limited to) Council Bluffs.Please know that no matter how worthy your project, if it is not taking place in Omaha area, we are unlikely to be your funder.The Weitz Family Foundation will not fund individuals or religious organizations.While we respect and appreciate the amazing efforts made by nonprofits of all kinds, due to budget limitations, we are unable to support all of them. Areas we do not fund include organizations centered on religion, sports, animals, and the environment.First-time applicants are not eligible for consideration
