VPRF/AVMF Pharmacology Research Grants

Funder: American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF)

Focus Areas: Veterinary pharmacology research, including pharmacokinetic studies and general pharmacology research

Geographic Scope: United States

Eligible Species: Studies can be conducted on companion animals, food-producing species, zoo and exotic animal species. Laboratory rodents as models are generally not funded.

Eligibility

• Institutions: Universities, teaching hospitals, corporations, and research institutions (with sufficient justification)
• Investigators: Principal Investigators (PIs) and Co-investigators eligible
• Submission Limits: No more than two proposals may be submitted by a Principal Investigator in any one year; no limitation on number of proposals where an investigator is listed as Co-investigator
• IACUC/VCSC Approval: Proposals with pending approval may be submitted, but documentation of approval MUST be provided prior to funding distribution. Failure to obtain approval may result in grant cancellation.

Budget Guidelines

• Technician/Student Salaries: Up to 20% of total direct costs can be used for technician and part-time student salaries (including fringe), but NOT for post-doc or graduate salaries
• Cost Extensions: No-cost extensions of grant termination date can be considered on a case-by-case basis if final report not submitted by deadline

Application Requirements

• Current and Pending Support: List all current and pending support; highlight funding particularly related to proposed project (include names, title, agency, effective dates, total amount)
• Owner Consent: For studies involving animals, owner consent, IACUC, and other approvals are handled at local level; investigator is responsible for working with institution to create appropriate owner consent form

Restrictions

• Applicants cannot submit the same application for both pharmacokinetic and pharmacology general categories
• Minor changes to applications after submission deadline may be acceptable with approval from grant administrator; no major changes allowed
