Student Overview Thanks to the generosity and vision of our donors, SJICF offers scholarships to eligible high school graduates for higher education and career training opportunities for all ages. Scholarships can open doors to advanced education and provide an incentive to realize one’s dreams. Vida Wight Memorial Scholarship Vida Luisa Demuth Wight was born in Guatemala City on October 18, 2000. By the time Vida was six months old she had arrived here in Friday Harbor where she was raised and treasured by her parents, Larry Wight and Cere Demuth. The Vida Wight Memorial Scholarship is a way for Vida’s family and the community to honor Vida’s remarkably beautiful life and vibrant spirit by supporting another determined young woman in pursuing an area of study that Vida herself was passionately pursuing at the time of her death.

Eligibility

EligibilityThe recipient of this scholarship will be a young woman who is either interested in pursuing studies in dance, somatics, psychology, Spanish, or agriculture; or this recipient can demonstrate her passion for protecting and empowering those who have experienced discrimination of some form. This student will also need to show her passion for life, a commitment to her academics, and a strong work ethic.A scholarship may be used to pay for tuition, fees, and required text materials. It may also be used for room and board costs if the student is staying in campus housing, and the housing costs are paid directly to the school.

Ineligibility

A scholarship may not be applied to transportation costs.
