Overview

Valor Awards Program

Geographic Scope: Bergen County, NJ

Purpose: Honor law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel who have given of themselves above and beyond the call of duty.

Event Details:

  • Annual J. Fletcher Creamer, Sr. Annual Valor Awards Dinner

  • 2026 Event Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at The Venetian in Garfield

  • Award ceremony recognizes incidents from August 2025 through July 17, 2026

  • Since 1987, the 200 Club has honored more than 500 individuals
  • Award Categories:

    1. Valor Award – An act of bravery, beyond the call of duty, and imminent personal risk to his or her own life and safety, with full knowledge of the risk involved. (The Valor pin is the only pin allowed to be worn on the uniform of a New Jersey State Police officer outside of their own awards)

    2. Meritorious Service Award – An act demonstrating a high level of courage under perilous conditions that is a credit to him or her and their agency and/or being instrumental in saving a life above and beyond the call of duty

    3. Distinguished Service Award – An act demonstrating outstanding bravery under conditions of personal risk to their own life and safety, and beyond their duties

    4. John R. Rinaldi Service Award – Recognizing Outstanding Service to an individual or group

    5. John R. Rinaldi Citation Award – Recognizing Outstanding Service as a group

    How to Apply

    Nomination Process

    1. Complete the 2026 Valor Awards Nomination Form with the following information:
    - Nominee name(s) and agency
    - Detailed description of the incident
    - Date of incident
    - Award category being nominated for

    2. Signatory Requirement:
    - The person making the nomination must sign the completed form

    3. Supporting Documentation (encouraged):
    - Incident report
    - Newspaper articles
    - Any additional relevant background material
    - If multiple individuals involved in same incident, use the multiple nominee sheet (do NOT complete separate applications for each person)

    4. Submit by: Wednesday, July 22, 2026

    5. Committee Review Process:
    - The Valor Awards Committee will screen applications
    - Committee may request additional information and/or interview with nominee(s)
    - Supplemental material may be submitted after initial submission
