Overview

Background The Salt Lake AWG has been awarding research scholarships to women undergraduate and graduate students since 2005. To date we have awarded over $16,000 to support geoscientists attending professional meetings and presenting results of their research. Student Research Scholarship The Student Research Scholarship awards up to $500 to graduate or undergraduate students presenting geoscience research results at a professional meeting. This award is open to students at a Utah institution of higher education, and to students from outside Utah whose research directly pertains to geoscience in Utah. Award Applicants may receive up to $500 to help defray the costs of presenting geoscience research results at a professional meeting (final scholarship amounts will be determined by the Scholarship Committee).

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. This scholarship is open to women ("including cis-gender, transgender, gender fluid and non-binary persons", undergraduate or graduate) currently attending a Utah institution of higher education and engaged in geoscience research OR to women geoscience students outside Utah whose research directly pertains to geosciences in Utah. Applicants must intend to present results of their research at a professional meeting within 12 months of being awarded the scholarship (May 1, 2026 - May 31, 2027).Scholarship funds must be applied to the direct and indirect costs of attending the meeting, including (but not limited to): registration, travel, lodging, meals, childcare during the meeting, and printing/publication costs.Scholarship winners will be asked to provide verification they attended the meeting and funds were applied towards the costs of attendance.

Ineligibility

Previous winners of the AWG Utah research scholarship within the last 2 years are not eligible.
