Overview

The USS ST LOUIS (LCS 19) Commissioning Committee established the USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) Scholarship in 2020 to award annual grants to qualifying members of the crew and their dependents who are pursuing undergraduate degrees or advanced technical training. The Committee selected The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis to administer the scholarship. The USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) Commissioning Committee’s mission is to engage the St. Louis community in honoring and celebrating the crew and families of USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) by creating memorable commissioning events, providing support that lifts morale, and establishing a scholarship fund that invests in the crew’s continuing education. Barbara Broadhurst Taylor, the ship’s sponsor, organized and directed the Commissioning Committee which is an entity of the Navy League of the United States – St. Louis Council. As sponsor, Mrs. Taylor and her family will maintain a relationship with the crew and their families through the life of the ship. The USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) Scholarship is intended to provide annual grants to qualifying members of the USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) crew and their dependents who are pursuing undergraduate degrees or advanced technical training. The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis will award one scholarship of up to $12,000 annually. This scholarship is renewable through graduation or up to ten semesters.

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. To be eligible to be considered for this scholarship, applicants must: Be a current or former USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) crew member or dependent Plankowners (original crew of the USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19)) and their dependents as defined by the United States Navy (Page 2 verification) will be eligible to apply for as long as the Fund exists.Subsequent crew members and their dependents (Page 2 verification) will be eligible to apply for a period extending up to five years following termination of their service on the ship. Be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited, nonprofit postsecondary program that will result in an undergraduate degree or certificate. Demonstrate significant financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or similar need calculations. Applicants with a Student Aid Index (SAI) over $17,500 must have significant and extenuating circumstances to be considered. Have achieved a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average Be seeking a first technical, first associate, or first bachelor’s degree
