Urban Act Grant Program (CT)

The Urban Act Grant Program in Connecticut provides financial assistance to municipalities identified as economically distressed or public investment communities. This initiative aims to enhance community conservation, urban development, and improve quality of life for residents. Local officials must submit a letter to the Office of Policy and Management to apply, as there is no formal application process. NOTE: There is no formal application process for local officials seeking Urban Act grants. According to the Office of Policy and Management (OPM), local officials wishing to apply for an Urban Act grant should write a letter to the OPM Secretary describing the project for which they seek assistance.
The Urban Act grant program is open to all municipalities designated as economically distressed, public investment communities or urban centers. Funds are provided to improve and expand state activities which promote community conservation and development and improve the quality of life for urban residents of the state.

Eligible Projects
Urban Act funds may be used to finance a wide range of projects, including:

• economic and community development
• transportation
• housing
• recreation development
• solid waste disposal
• public safety
• social-services-related projects (e.g., child day care projects, elderly centers and shelter facilities for domestic violence victims).
• The funds may be used either for grants to eligible municipalities or for projects in eligible municipalities (CGS § 4-66c).
