Background: The UPHA Foundation was established to support organizations affiliated with the UPHA or that benefit from the UPHA and its stated mission of improving the show horse industry.

Purpose: Grants awarded to 501(c)(3) organizations affiliated with or benefiting from UPHA to support:

Eligibility

• Organization Type: Tax-exempt, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organizations
• Affiliation: Must be affiliated with UPHA or benefit from UPHA and its mission
• Non-Discrimination: Must be equal opportunity organization (Foundation will not award to organizations committing unlawful discrimination)
• Purpose: Funding may not be used for religious or political purposes

What They Fund

• Future projects and activities only
• Educational initiatives in horsemanship and equestrian activities
• Programs supporting UPHA show industry
• Humanitarian causes benefiting equestrian community

What They Don't Fund

• Grants to individuals
• Endowments
• Deficit financing
• Conduit organizations
• Reimbursement for items purchased prior to grant request
• Religious or political organizations (if funds used for religious/political purposes)
• Organizations with prior full/partial grant in previous grant period
• Multiple applications per grant period from same organization

Application Deadlines

• March 1 (for spring cycle)
• October 1 (for fall cycle)
• Applications must be postmarked on or before deadline
• No extensions if dates fall on weekend
• Decision issued within 30 days after board meeting following deadline

Special Considerations

• No single grantee shall receive all available Foundation funding in one calendar year
• Foundation may give special consideration to programs offering matching grant possibilities
• Grantee must demonstrate financial responsibility for duration of grant allocation
• Grantee must provide expenditure report within one year of receiving grant (failure to report precludes future awards)
• If grant purpose modified by grantee, Foundation reserves right to terminate agreement and funding
