University Grant Program

Grants awarded to veterinary schools with FVD student chapters to enhance their dentistry curriculum through materials and equipment.

Purpose: To enhance dentistry curriculum via materials and equipment to enable graduates to matriculate with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to diagnose and treat oral disease most commonly encountered in companion animal practice.

Award History:

• 2022: Ohio State University and Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine each awarded $15,000
• 2021: Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine awarded $15,000 (inaugural recipient)

Eligibility:

• Veterinary programs with FVD student chapters
• Institutions demonstrating commitment to improving dental education
• Must have Dean letter of support

Requirements:

• Describe current dentistry program
• Outline plans to meet AVMA mandate for dental education
• Explain how grant funds will help meet objectives
• Provide matching funds from the university
• Submit letter of support from Dean

Application Process

Review Process:

• Panel of three board-certified veterinary dentists
• Anonymous review process
• Evaluation based on:
  • Impact of the grant
  • Quality of program proposal
  • University commitment (matching funds)
  • Alignment with AVMA dental education standards

Recognition:

• Awardee recognized at annual Veterinary Dental Forum
• Public announcement of grant award
