The Undergraduate Student Award, presented by AASP-The Palynological Society, aims to promote student engagement in palynology at the undergraduate level. Faculty members can nominate one student annually from approved courses with significant palynological content. Recipients receive a year of free membership, inclusive of a subscription to the journal Palynology and discounts on publications. This award supports academic achievement in a field crucial for research and applications in forensics, climate science, and energy transition.Overview
NOTE: Upon course approval, instructors may nominate a student to receive the award by sending the name, institutional address, and email address of the recipient to the Awards Committee Chair and Society Secretary at any time of the year. AASP–The Palynological Society AASP–The Palynological Society (AASP-TPS) promotes the science of palynology. It is a non-profit organization, to foster the spirit of scientific research on palynomorphs (e.g. pollen, spores, dinoflagellates). AASP–The Palynological Society was established as the ‘American Association of Stratigraphic Palynologists (AASP)’ in 1967. In 2008 it renamed itself ‘AASP-The Palynological Society’ to reflect its broader scope. Amongst numerous applications, palynology is used in forensics, honey analysis, palaeontology, climate research, and conservation management. It is very important for the energy industry and plays a crucial role in the energy transition (e.g. geothermal energy and carbon capture and storage). The Palynological Society supports an inclusive and international community of palynologists. It publishes findings in the journal Palynology and encourages outreach to the general public. Undergraduate Student Award In order to support the teaching of palynology at the undergraduate level, and to encourage and reward student engagement and achievement in this field, AASP-The Palynological Society announces the Undergraduate Student Award. Each award consists of one year’s free membership to the Society. This free membership includes access to digital issues of the Society’s publications, the journal Palynology, and the quarterly newsletter; discounted registration fees at Society meetings; and eligibility for Society awards.Eligibility
