Eligibility

  • Applicant Type: Members of UFCW 876 OR dependents (child or legal dependent) of UFCW 876 members
  • Member Status: Member must be in "good standing" with all dues fully paid for one full year as of April 27, 2026
  • Continuous Good Standing: Member must maintain good standing until award is presented
  • Student Status: Applicant must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student attending or accepted to attend an accredited college, university, community college, or recognized trade school at the time award is presented
  • Proof of Enrollment: Winners must provide proof of enrollment for Fall 2026 at accredited institution of higher learning prior to receiving award
  • Ineligibility: Previous 876 scholarship winners and relatives of union staff are not eligible

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be selected based on:

  • Academic achievement

  • Community involvement

  • Career goals

  • Demonstrated understanding of labor unions
  • Selection Committee: Composed of labor leaders, educators, civic leaders, and/or public officials. Committee decision is final and binding.

    Notification & Awards

    • Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than June 19, 2026
    • Winners will receive all information necessary to obtain their award at that time
    • Winners must provide a professional photo as part of award acceptance
    • Failure to provide proof of enrollment and professional photo constitutes disqualification

    Publication & Use of Materials

    • All essays submitted will remain property of UFCW 876
    • Union retains right to print any submitted essay in publications or website
    • Union reserves right to publicly use names and images of winners for promotion of scholarship program

    Application Process

    Deadline: Monday, April 27, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

    Required Materials

    Applicants must submit:

    1. Completed scholarship application form (fully and legibly filled out)
    2. Official transcripts
    3. Essay (typed, minimum 300 words on assigned labor topic)
    4. For incoming Freshmen only: Acceptance letter and Student ID number

    Essay Requirements

    • Minimum 300 words
    • Typed format
    • Topic: Labor-related topic (specific topic to be designated on application)

    Submission Instructions

    • Complete all portions of application form legibly
    • Provide all requested documentation and materials
    • Failure to completely fill out any portion or provide requested materials will result in disqualification

    Post-Award Requirements

    Winners must provide prior to receiving award:

  • Proof of enrollment for Fall 2026 at accredited institution of higher learning

  • Professional photo

  • Failure to provide constitutes disqualification
  • Verification

    • The 876 Membership Department will verify member good standing upon receiving application
