Overview

TVEC High School Scholarships

Overview: Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative awards scholarships to high school seniors pursuing higher education. Funds come from unclaimed capital credit checks that the State of Texas allows to be used for scholarships, supporting local students and strengthening communities served by TVEC.

Geographic Scope: TVEC service territory in Texas (Kaufman County area)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a high school senior from a public school, private school, or homeschool program

  • Must live with a parent or legal guardian who is a current TVEC member receiving electric service at their primary residence

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college, university, or trade school

  • Residency and membership will be verified

  • Homeschool and GED students are eligible
  • Award Details:

  • Each school district within TVEC service territory receives $2,000 in total scholarships

  • Private/homeschool students allocated maximum of $5,000 combined

  • Maximum $1,000 per individual student

  • Funds paid directly to the institution; student must provide proof of enrollment before payment

  • Scholarship funds expire May 31, 2027 if not claimed
  • Selection Process:

  • Essays judged by independent panel

  • Awards based on top-scoring essays

  • 2025: $44,000 awarded to 75 students from 27 area schools

    Application Procedures

    1. Online Submission Required - All applications must be completed through the online form (no printable forms available)
    2. Required Materials:
    - Proof of residency (verified by TVEC)
    - Questionnaire
    - Essay (see below)
    3. Essay Requirements:
    - Maximum 500 words
    - Must include applicant's name, address, phone number
    - Must include name of the school
    - Topic assigned by TVEC
    4. Deadline: Applications close March 30 at 5:00 PM
    5. Verification: TVEC verifies residency and membership before sending applications to scholarship committee
    6. Proof of Enrollment: After selection, recipient must provide proof of registration/enrollment to institution before payment is released
    7. Award Notification:
    - Public school students: counselors notified
    - Private/homeschool students: notified individually by Joy Long
    8. Payment Timeline: Awards made by May 31, 2026; funds expire May 31, 2027
