TSBCF Community Grantmaking

The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation is dedicated to strengthening communities through impactful grantmaking. It focuses on programs that foster community development, youth development, and artistic initiatives. The Foundation encourages collaboration among non-profits and governmental bodies to maximize grant effectiveness. It provides support for operating expenses to organizations serving vital community needs, considering requests both under and over $2,500. Eligible applicants must be IRS-recognized non-profits operating in specific New York counties.

Background & Mission
The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation is an independent private foundation that is the community legacy of The Troy Savings Bank. Although the Bank was acquired by another institution in 2004, the Foundation continues the Bank's proud charitable giving tradition with an emphasis on programs and initiatives that build stronger communities.
Funding Goals
The Foundation seeks to fund initiatives that will make positive and lasting changes in our communities. Of special interest to the Foundation are grantmaking opportunities that leverage grant effect through collaboration with other not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, and private funding sources. In short, the Foundation encourages grant applicants to form community partnerships that will create long-lasting benefits and efficiencies.
How We Serve Our Community
The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation focuses its giving in the following program areas:
Community Development - programs or initiatives that provide vital human services, access to safe and affordable housing, or economic stimulus for our communities.
Youth Development - programs that help young people develop needed skills for the workforce of tomorrow. The Foundation also provides support for programs serving at-risk youth during non-school hours. This may include after school and summer camp programs serving school-age children and teens.
Arts & Culture - artistic and cultural initiatives that enrich our communities, with special consideration given to those that provide access to the arts for financially disadvantaged youth. In addition, the Foundation provides significant support for the world-renowned Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
Operating Support Grants
The Foundation will consider requests for operating support from organizations that provide vital community services. All interested applicants must call or email the Foundation Executive Director to discuss the request before submitting a funding application.
Requests are considered under two separate dollar amount categories:

• Requests for amounts up to and including $2,500Contribution Requests Over $2,500

Eligibility

Not-for-profit organizations that meet the following criteria can be considered for funding by the Foundation:

• Recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS under Section 501(c)(3)
• Offer programs or services consistent with the Foundation’s funding priorities

Provide programs or services in Albany or Rensselaer counties of New York State. The Foundation will also occasionally consider regional grant requests for programs or initiatives serving the residents of the Greater Capital Region (defined as Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties).

Ineligibility

The Foundation does not make grants to individuals, political organizations, labor organizations, or fraternal organizations.
