Tri Sigma Foundation Scholarships

Overview: The Tri Sigma Foundation awards merit- and need-based scholarships to collegiate and alumnae members. Over half a million dollars in scholarship aid has been awarded to members. The Foundation offers more than 40 different named scholarships to meet the needs of members.

Geographic Scope: United States (members of Tri Sigma sorority)

Eligibility:

  • Any Tri Sigma collegiate or alumnae member in good standing

  • Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited college or university

  • Proof of enrollment required before scholarship grant is issued

  • Applicants cannot be current employees or Board members of the Tri Sigma Foundation

  • Applicants cannot be members of Tri Sigma's Executive Council

  • Applicants cannot be relatives of Foundation employees, Board members, or Executive Council members at time of award

  • Pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees
  • Award Amounts: $1,000 - $5,000 (amounts based on available funding)

    Merit-Based Requirements:

  • Specific merit-based scholarships may have additional requirements for GPA, area of study, chapter affiliation, or leadership and service

  • Applicants cannot have received a merit-based scholarship from the Foundation in one of the preceding two years
  • Need-Based Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate financial need

  • Application heavily weighted on demonstrated need

  • Must also complete merit-based scholarship application
  • Selection Process:

  • Committee of Tri Sigma Board members and volunteers scores applications

  • Awards based on merit, adherence to eligibility requirements, and demonstrated need

  • No preference given based on age, race, religion, sexual preference, economic status, ethnic origin, or donor status

  • No preference to National Officers, past/present volunteers, or past/present chapter officers

  • Award recipients and amounts approved by Foundation Board of Directors
  • Required Materials:

  • One letter of recommendation (applicant responsible for submission)

  • Application form

  • For need-based scholarships: financial need documentation
  • Application Timeline: Applications open each spring; awards distributed at beginning of fall semester

    Application Process:
    1. Complete the Tri Sigma Foundation Scholarship Application
    2. Obtain and submit one letter of recommendation from someone who knows the applicant well, is familiar with their work, and can speak to their leadership, service skills, and character
    3. For need-based scholarships, demonstrate and document financial need
    4. Submit all materials by the application deadline

    Required Materials:

  • Completed scholarship application form

  • One letter of recommendation (uploaded by applicant)

  • Proof of enrollment at accredited institution

  • For need-based scholarships: financial need information
  • Recommendation Letter Guidelines:

  • Should come from someone who knows the applicant well

  • Should be familiar with applicant's work

  • Should address leadership and service skills

  • Should speak to character as Tri Sigma member or community member

  • Must be submitted before deadline
