Texan by Nature and H-E-B have partnered to fund native tree-planting projects that reduce the urban heat island effect in our communities and schools. Through this program, a school near each new H-E-B store that opens will receive funding, expert assistance, and more.
We’re engaging the next generation of conservationists and cooling the community by planting native trees at schools near new H-E-B stores. The program also provides teachers with FREE tree curriculum booklets full of fun and engaging TEKS-aligned science activities!

Eligibility

Using GIS technology, schools are selected based on their distance from a new H-E-B store and ranked by the average surface temperature (using satellite thermal data) surrounding the school. The “hottest” schools are then paired with socioeconomic data and canopy cover to select the which will benefit most from a planting project.
