Our Mission Since our founding by the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council in 1979, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has been making the important connection between individuals’ personal memories, passions and dreams, and the fulfillment of their charitable goals. By actively listening to the desires of our donors, we help create permanent charitable funds that ensure people of vision have an enduring impact on our community and the causes they hold dear. Our motto — “Be the One” — reflects our deeply-held belief that anyone can be a philanthropist and give back to our community, regardless of means. Scholarship Opportunities Through the generous support and passion of our donors, we are able to award approximately $2 million in scholarships each year to the next generation of leaders shaping our community. Scholarships are available to all students pursuing higher education and designed to satisfy a wide variety of academic interests and fields. Traditional Scholarships Completing our Traditional Scholarship application will allow our scholarship committee to consider you for more than 90 different scholarship opportunities. Applicants must be a resident of Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto, or Charlotte counties or be a graduating high school senior or graduate of a high school located within one of these four counties. Students must be pursuing or planning to pursue further education at an accredited university, community college, technical school, or certification program.Eligibility
