Overview

Tombigbee RC&D General Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Eight counties served by the Tombigbee RC&D Council: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa (Alabama)

Eligible Applicants:

  • Registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations

  • Units or sub-units of government
  • Project Categories:

  • Education Fund Projects: Must have an educational component

  • General Fund Projects: Projects without an educational component
  • Award Amount: $5,000 - $10,000 per application

    Project Timeline:

  • Application period: April 1 - June 30 annually

  • Project start date: October 1 (fiscal year begins)

  • Project completion deadline: July 15 (of the following year)

  • Projects cannot be extended beyond July 31st
  • Funding Basis: Reimbursement only — No funds awarded until project is complete with proper documentation of expenditures

    Required Documentation for Reimbursement:

  • Signed Cooperative Agreement on file

  • Receipts/cancelled checks for total amount of approved funds (dated on or after October 1st)

  • Photos of the project

  • Final report provided by the council
  • Priority Considerations:

  • Organizations that received a grant from Tombigbee RC&D within the previous 2 grant cycles will be given lower priority, but applications are still welcomed
  • What Will NOT Be Funded:

  • Capital Assets

  • Operational phases of established programs

  • Endowment campaigns

  • Religious organizations for religious purposes

  • Individuals working independently

  • Post-event or after-the-fact situations

  • Land purchases

  • Food or snacks
  • Budget Requirements:

  • List budget items in order of priority

  • State whether the project can be completed if partially funded
  • Project Mission: Award grant funding for special projects that enhance human and natural resources to improve the quality of life for local Alabama citizens

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Step 1: Create Foundant Account

  • Visit the Foundant application portal

  • Create an account before completing an application
  • Step 2: Complete Application

  • Applications available April 1 - June 30 annually

  • No late applications will be accepted

  • All applications must be submitted by June 30
  • Step 3: Submit Required Information

  • Provide organization details (501(c)(3) status or government unit verification)

  • Identify service area (one or more of the eight eligible counties)

  • Describe project and its purpose

  • List budget items in order of priority

  • Indicate if project can be completed if partially funded

  • Provide timeline and expected completion date
  • Step 4: Approval and Project Start

  • Applications reviewed before October 1

  • Approved projects begin October 1st of the fiscal year

  • Purchases made before October 1st are NOT eligible for reimbursement
  • Step 5: Project Completion and Reimbursement

  • Complete project by July 15 of the following year

  • Complete Project Completion Form in Foundant

  • Submit all invoices/receipts from on or after October 1st

  • Upload photos of the project

  • Submit final report

  • Reimbursement begins after documentation is received and verified
  • Required Application Materials:

  • Organization information and 501(c)(3) verification or government unit documentation

  • Detailed project description

  • Budget breakdown with itemized costs in priority order

  • Project timeline and completion date

  • Explanation of how project enhances human and/or natural resources

  • Statement regarding partial funding capability
