Tom McNabb Young Hibernian Leadership Scholarship

Award: Full coverage of evening convention package for attendance at the AOH National Convention

Overview:
Established to recognize and develop younger AOH members as leaders. The scholarship commemorates Tom McNabb, AOH Secretary Emeritus, and celebrates his lifetime of commitment to the Order's values and his role as one of the youngest National Presidents.

Purpose:

  • Demonstrate that AOH values and learns from younger members

  • Provide opportunity for young leaders to experience camaraderie and share ideas

  • Develop new initiatives among younger members

  • Showcase the Order's good works and energy

    • Eligibility:

  • AOH member

  • Under age 40

  • Selected by the AOH National Board

    • Selection Process:

  • Six (6) members selected annually

  • Nominations can be made by:

    • - The individual themselves
    - Division board
    - County board
    - State board
  • Nominations must be signed by applicant and division president

    • Expectations of Awardees:

  • Must commit to attending all convention functions

  • Will be recognized at the convention

  • Will work with other young leaders to develop a presentation to the convention and/or breakout session

  • Must report back to local Division, County, and/or State Boards on experiences

  • Must join a national marketing subcommittee

  • Profiles will be used for marketing/announcement purposes

    • Convention Details:

  • Conferred at the AOH National Convention (next scheduled: 2024 in Orlando)

  • Awardees participate in convention activities and leadership development sessions

    Nomination Process

    1. Complete Application Form: Download and fill out the Tom McNabb Young Hibernian Leadership Scholarship Application
    2. Applicant Information Required:
    - Name
    - Age (must be under 40)
    - AOH membership information
    - Division affiliation
    3. Signatures Required:
    - Applicant signature
    - Division President signature
    4. Submission: Submit according to instructions on the application form
    5. Selection: AOH National Board reviews and selects six finalists

    After Selection:

  • Awardees attend all convention evening functions

  • Participate in recognized ceremony at convention

  • Collaborate on presentation about attracting/retaining younger members

  • Complete post-convention reporting to home division/county/state boards

  • Join national marketing subcommittee
