Overview

Timothy M. George Fellowship Award

Purpose: Assist medical students, residents, and neurosurgeons in clinical investigation or basic science research of syringomyelia, Chiari malformation, and related disorders. Award renamed in August 2020 in memory of Dr. Timothy M. George, who was well known in the Chiari/Syringomyelia community for his knowledge, dedication, and care.

Award Details:

  • Award amount: $10,000-$20,000 (depending on location and duration)

  • Duration: 6 to 12 months of fellowship

  • Sponsor requirement: Fellowship conducted under direction of specific sponsor

  • Research scope: Clinical, translational, or basic science investigation relevant to syringomyelia, Chiari malformation, and related disorders

  • Additional support: Conference registration and economy airfare (reserved at least 2 weeks in advance) to ASAP Chiari & Syringomyelia Conference in year of fellowship will be reimbursed

    • Eligibility:

  • Medical students

  • Neurosurgical residents

  • Fully trained neurosurgeons at any stage of career

  • Must be in United States

    • Eligible Expenses:

  • Support up to $20,000 available

  • Detailed budget justification required

  • Account of expenses incurred following fellowship completion required

  • Residents: No extra salary support if already covered by clinical residency program

  • Conference registration and economy airfare to ASAP conference reimbursed

    • Requirements:

  • Detailed budget plan for proposed fellowship expenses

  • Salary justification if applicable

    - Reprints of previous publications pertinent to the application
