The John Joseph Brandlin Scholarship Fund

Overview: In recognition of 32 years of service to and management of QueensCare, the John Joseph Brandlin Scholarship Fund distributes up to $250,000 annually to support education for primary care providers. QueensCare awards these funds to assist in curing the continuous shortage of healthcare professionals working in underserved communities.

Background: John Joseph Brandlin (1913–2010) co-founded QueensCare with Arthur W. Barron in 1998. Mr. Brandlin was a four-year scholarship recipient himself, attending the University of Illinois and the School of Law at the University of Southern California, where he subsequently practiced law for 50 years. He understood the value of education.

Scope: Limited to students preparing for careers in the healthcare field, from medical assistants to physicians, in disciplines specified by the QueensCare Board of Directors.

Geographic Scope:

  • California (colleges and universities where applicant resides and attends)

  • University of Illinois, Champaign (Mr. Brandlin's alma mater)
  • Award Types:

  • One (1) four-year scholarship to a student at the University of Illinois, Champaign

  • One-year scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students residing in and attending colleges and universities in California for up to four (4) years

  • Up to $10,000 per year based on financial need and academic performance
  • Eligibility:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 for community college students

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for undergraduate students

  • Minimum 3.25 GPA for graduate students

  • Must demonstrate financial need

  • Must reside in and attend accredited colleges and universities in California or the University of Illinois, Champaign

    Application Process

    Step 1: Verify Eligibility

  • Ensure you meet all eligibility requirements:

  • - Minimum GPA of 2.5 for community college students
    - Minimum 3.0 GPA for undergraduate students
    - Minimum 3.25 GPA for graduate students
    - Demonstrate financial need
    - Reside in and attend accredited colleges/universities in California or University of Illinois, Champaign

    Step 2: Create Account and Complete Application

  • All new applicants must complete the Evaluator Form

  • All applicants must create an account through the funding portal

  • Click "Submit Scholarship Application Here" button to access the portal

  • Save your progress as you work through the application
  • Step 3: Submit by May 1st

  • Applicants may start applying on January 1st

  • Must complete application by May 1st

  • You will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission

  • A School Announcement Letter should be submitted
  • Step 4: Award Notification

  • QueensCare scholarship recipients will be notified mid-June
