The Green Haven Family Advocates, Geraldine “Gerri” Newman Memorial Scholarship Grant

The Green Haven Family Advocates, Geraldine “Gerri” Newman Memorial Scholarship provides financial support to students from specific high schools in Southern Wisconsin. This scholarship emphasizes good character, volunteerism, and a commitment to human services careers. Applicants are evaluated based on their citizenship, leadership, academics, financial need, and personal hardships. This initiative is part of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, which manages over 700 charitable funds to enhance community quality of life.

The Community Foundation is a repository for more than 700 charitable funds worth more than $50 million. We service these funds by managing the investment, encouraging and supporting additions, overseeing the disbursement of grants and scholarships, and managing the requisite government paperwork.
The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin serves communities in nine Southern Wisconsin counties: Crawford, Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock, Sauk, Vernon, and Walworth.

Most scholarship funds have specific eligibility requirements established by the donor, such as enrollment at a particular high school or specialization in a particular field of study. Also, most scholarship funds base selection on financial need, academic performance, extracurricular activities, volunteer/community service, or other talents.

Eligibility

The applicants for this scholarship must be of good character and high moral standards. Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism through participation in school and/or community activities, plan a career path with direct connection to human services (examples: social work, medical, teaching, law enforcement, etc.) Additional preference will be given to an individual who has shown an ability to overcome hardship in their personal life. Applicants will also be judged on citizenship, leadership, academics, financial need, and life experiences.
