About Our Funding
The Medica Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting the unique health needs of individual communities in our grantmaking.
Our Overarching principles:
* Benefit the communities Medica serves
* Advance health equity
* Build trust and collaboration with grantee partners and create mutual accountability between funders and nonprofits
* Improve the availability of, access to, and/or quality of health care
* Achieve success or demonstrate effectiveness through measurable outcomes
The Esther Tomljanovich Strategic Initiatives
The Esther Tomljanovich Strategic initiative grant lets us make community investments on a larger and more impactful scale to advance health equity. We seek transformational "big ideas" that are catalysts for systemic improvements in health outcomes. These are on a larger scale than our typical program grants.
The goal is to provide more flexibility for our grant partners to implement longer-term project and evaluate their impact. Strategic initiative grants are implemented over the course of two or even three years.
Proposals should address one of the following focus areas:
* Healthcare workforce development programs at all levels
* Women's health: access to prenatal and postpartum care and reproductive health services
* Support for aging health services, dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease
* Dental programs for youth or adults
* Programs focusing on the intersection of health and stable housing for families
* Collaborative behavioral health projects with system level or community-wide impact
* Reducing barriers and increasing access to healthcare services for marginalized communities
