The Care Fund

Organization: Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina

Target Population: Furloughed federal employees, contract workers, and their families facing:

Financial strains continuing weeks to months after shutdown

Grantees and Awards:

Lowcountry Food Bank: $15,000 to supply fresh produce and food assistance boxes to 2,000+ people across Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester and Hampton counties; also provided SNAP supplement benefits

Origin SC (Family Services, Inc.): $25,000 to provide financial coaching and grants to 50+ households across the region; services include budget development, debt paydown, and savings building

Geographic Scope: Lowcountry region (Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry and Jasper counties)
