Overview

Founded in 1914, WNF&GA is an environmental group comprised of branches, garden clubs and special interest environmental organizations. We gather for an Annual Meeting to share ideas on growth, program speakers and activities, learn about new environmental issues and seal friendships with other organizations and their members. Our networking events provide initiative, energy and inspiration. The WNF&GA has an ever-growing emphasis on awards across undergraduate and graduate-level studies in environmental, horticultural, and related fields of study. In addition to national and international awards, dozens of our branches and divisions give to local students at nearby colleges. Since 1914, the national organization has distributed grants and educational awards that totaled over $2 million. Charitable funding at the branch level well exceeds that amount. The Burlingame / Gerrity Horticultural Therapy Scholarship Horticultural therapy enriches the lives of children, adults, and seniors living with mental and physical challenges. This scholarship was established in 1984 to honor Alice Wessels Burlingame, who in 1952 helped to develop the field of horticultural therapy as a profession. Mrs. Burlingame was a member of the WNF&GA Birmingham Branch, Michigan Division for over 30 years. Award amount: Two (2) scholarships valued at $1,000 each.
