Overview

The Burlingame/Gerrity Horticultural Therapy Scholarships, established in 1984, support students pursuing degrees in horticultural therapy or horticulture with a focus on horticultural therapy. Offered by the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association, this scholarship honors Alice Wessels Burlingame, a pioneer in the field. Two scholarships of $1,000 each are available to applicants demonstrating a commitment to horticultural therapy, excluding WNF&GA members and their families from eligibility.

We gather for an Annual Meeting to share ideas on growth, program speakers and activities, learn about new environmental issues and seal friendships with other organizations and their members.
The WNF&GA has an ever-growing emphasis on awards across undergraduate and graduate-level studies in environmental, horticultural, and related fields of study. In addition to national and international awards, dozens of our branches and divisions give to local students at nearby colleges. Since 1914, the national organization has distributed grants and educational awards that totaled over $2 million. Charitable funding at the branch level well exceeds that amount.
Horticultural therapy enriches the lives of children, adults, and seniors living with mental and physical challenges. This scholarship was established in 1984 to honor Alice Wessels Burlingame, who in 1952 helped to develop the field of horticultural therapy as a profession. Mrs. Burlingame was a member of the WNF&GA Birmingham Branch, Michigan Division for over 30 years.
Award amount: Two (2) scholarships valued at $1,000 each.
