Overview

Executive Summary: This grant supports a Parent Mentor Program for families on TANF. This program assists primarily low-income, African American and Latino parents with the goal of becoming leaders in their communities, for their families and for themselves. The program positions these parents to learn more skills, further their education and/or employment opportunities and become positive role models for their children. At the same time, students increase learning, teachers are supported, student achievement increases, and school climates become more parent friendly. Program Description The general purpose of the funding is to fund a Parent Mentor Program for families on TANF and it is expected to assist primarily low-income, African American, and Latino parents with the goal of becoming leaders in their communities, for their families and for themselves for the public good. Goals and objectives of the Program. The goal of this program is to give parents opportunities to learn more skills, further their education and/or employment opportunities and become positive role models for their children while also increasing student learning and support for teachers.This grant is intended to fund Community Based Organizations (CBOs) that will provide employment and training programming consistent with the TANF E&T program manual and policies.
