NOTE: Applications accepted through August 1 each year and reviewed in the order in which they are received. About the Foundation The Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation was founded in 1990. It is a public charity as a supporting organization of the Omaha Community Foundation. The Foundation’s geographic area of emphasis is the Omaha metropolitan area plus causes outside that region in which the Scotts have had personal involvement. The Foundation’s vision is to be a catalyst for change in the communities we serve. It seeks to have a significant impact on the capacity of the nonprofit sector to elevate opportunities for youth and raise a community’s quality of life now and well into the future. The Foundation’s grant making activities and program-related investments center on three major themes: Advancing communities Investing in higher education Developing the next generation of leaders We seek philanthropic partnerships with nonprofits that share our core values. Omaha Award The Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation recognizes that for people and places to truly be healthy, the basic needs of individuals must first be met. The Foundation values the work of health and human service agencies that care for our community’s most vulnerable members and strive to assist in times of high demand and financial uncertainty. For this reason, the Foundation has introduced a new competitive grants program that provides support to nonprofit organizations working directly in the areas of food, personal care items, shelter and health. Grant requests can be made for general operations or program support. Food: Meals, pantries and food production support Essential items: Clothing, personal care or household supplies Shelter: Emergency shelter, temporary or permanent supportive housing or critical home repairs/updates Health: Access and charitable care for low- to moderate-income residents Grant Amount Maximum grant request for general operating or program support: $75,000. Past Omaha Award grantees may request an additional $50,000 for supplemental capital or capacity-building funds

Eligibility

Grants are only made to organizations that are tax-exempt under 501(c)(3) and must be in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service or be a government entity described in section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.Organization and/or service should be located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.Nonprofits may submit one operating/program request annually.Nonprofits may reapply annually for funding. Omaha Award grants will not disqualify organizations from receiving additional support from family foundations.Past grantees may request additional capital or capacity support bi-annually.Nonprofits are welcome to seek funding from the above foundations for other program, capital or capacity building needs throughout the year.
