Sustainable Communities Grant Program - Environmental Stewardship Grants

The Sustainable Communities Grant Program, funded by Atlantic City Electric and Sustainable Jersey, aims to enhance environmental stewardship in New Jersey. With a total of $35,000 available, the program will award five grants of $5,000 each to municipalities for projects that improve public spaces, such as parks and natural areas. This initiative supports sustainability efforts and empowers communities to create a healthier environment for future generations.

NOTE: After submitting the completed grant application (Pre-Proposal deadline), you will gain access to the Grant Authorization Resolution stage which has a longer deadline than the grant application. A grant authorization resolution must be submitted no later than the second deadline (Full Proposal).
Overview
Sustainable Jersey is a network and movement of municipalities, schools and school districts working collectively to bring about a sustainable New Jersey. Acting with state agencies, non-profit organizations, foundations, academia and industry, Sustainable Jersey researches best practices for what communities could and should do to contribute to a sustainable future. The program culminates in a prestigious certification award to municipalities and schools that have documented meeting a set of rigorous standards.
Since the launch of the Sustainable Jersey municipal program in 2009 and the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program in 2013, participants have successfully implemented and documented over 9,000 discrete actions from our list of best practices. Over five-million dollars in grants have been awarded to municipalities, schools and school districts in the program. Sustainable Jersey provides tools, training and financial incentives to support communities as they pursue sustainability programs. By supporting efforts to reduce waste, cut greenhouse gas emissions, educate for sustainability, stimulate local economies, increase resiliency and progress toward an equitable society, Sustainable Jersey is empowering communities to build a better world for future generations.
Atlantic City Electric and Sustainable Jersey are pleased to announce the Sustainable Communities Grant Program. Atlantic City Electric values the environment and is always working toward delivering a cleaner and brighter future for communities. That is why it is contributing $35,000 to support municipal environmental stewardship and resiliency projects in its service territory. Grants to support environmental stewardship and resiliency will be awarded.
These grants are intended to help municipalities plan for, protect and improve public spaces such as local parks, natural areas, and recreation resources. In addition, grants can be used in combination with other funding sources to cover a portion of the expenses associated with developing and/or supporting their open space programs not otherwise covered by state or county programs.
