Purpose The intent of the Care Access Fund (formerly Indigent Care Fund) is to provide for otherwise unmet medical needs of uninsured, underinsured, and medically vulnerable residents of the Upper Peninsula. Some examples include, but are not limited to: A cancer care services organization that provides funding to patients who are otherwise unable to afford their treatment or supplemental healthcare.A hospice that provides funding to families who can otherwise not afford to admit a loved one.A hospital that provides financial assistance to patients who cannot otherwise afford care.A behavioral health center that helps clients with the cost of residential or outpatient treatment.
