Overview

State University of New York (SUNY) SUNY OER Services (SOS) is a system-wide initiative within State University of New York focused on expanding access, affordability, and academic success through the adoption and sustainable use of open educational resources (OER).  SOS collaborates with faculty and campuses across SUNY to provide ready-to-use OER course catalogs, professional development, technology support, and guidance for integrating openly licensed materials into the curriculum. By reducing textbook costs and implementing high-quality, adaptable learning resources, the program helps lower financial barriers for students while enabling instructors to personalize and improve teaching and learning outcomes. SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG) The Innovative Instruction Technology Grant (IITG) program, now integrated with the OER Impact Grants as of 2024, supports projects that enhance teaching and learning through innovation, collaboration, and technology. This unified initiative funds individuals, groups, and campuses across the State University of New York (SUNY) system to advance Open Educational Resources (OER), explore applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, promote innovative instructional technologies and pedagogical practices, and build SUNY-wide communities of practice. Guided by the Innovative Instruction Research Council (IIRC) and supported by the SUNY Center for Professional Development, the program emphasizes affordability, inclusion, and flexibility in education—empowering faculty and institutions to improve student success, expand SUNY Online learning environments, and foster sustainable cross-campus partnerships.
