Summary
The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health invites proposals for the "Strengthening the Mental Health of Rural and Rural Border Communities Grants." This initiative aims to empower rural Texas communities by fostering local solutions for mental well-being. Grants of up to $75,000 annually for five years will support projects that enhance mental health and resilience. The foundation seeks to build a collaborative network focused on learning and sharing impactful strategies, particularly from underserved regions along the Texas-Mexico border.Overview
The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health was established in 1940 at The University of Texas at Austin by the children of Texas Governor James Hogg. For over a quarter of a century, the Hogg Foundation was guided by the passion and insight of the Governor’s daughter, Miss Ima Hogg, who actively promoted the foundation and encouraged its staff to pursue a bold, new vision. Today the Hogg Foundation is based at The University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work and is funded through an endowment created by gifts from the Hogg family and managed by The University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company. The Hogg Foundation is inspired by Ima Hogg’s vision for a Texas that supports and promotes mental health, resilience, and well-being. Miss Ima was ahead of her time in believing that mental health was just as important as physical health. She believed all people should have access to community-based resources to support mental well-being and live fulfilling lives, and she championed supports in everyday environments like schools, workplaces, places of worship, and homes. Strengthening the Mental Health of Rural and Rural Border Communities Grants The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health is requesting proposals for projects that support rural and rural border communities. This initiative will build on community strengths and foster community-driven solutions to help create, support, celebrate, and promote mental well-being. The goal of this initiative, "Strengthening the Mental Health of Rural and Rural Border Communities," is to support rural and rural border Texas communities to improve their mental health, resilience, and well-being. This work builds an earlier project started in 2018, called Collaborative Approaches to Well-Being in Rural Communities (WRC). That project focused on creating local, community-led solutions to create, support, and promote mental health. The Hog foundation plans to award up to ten project grants. Each grant will provide up to $75,000 annually for five years and may total up to $375,000 per grant partner, including 10 percent for overhead expenses. The grant will last five years and is expected to begin in December 2025.The grant will build a rural mental health community collaborative that learns together and studies the program’s outcomes, lessons learned, and overall impact. We are especially interested in hearing from groups in rural Texas/Mexico border areas, the rural west, and the rural panhandle, as we have historically received few proposals from these regions. However, all rural communities in Texas are eligible.Eligibility
