Overview

StreetHeart Project Awards

Overview: A neighborhood improvement grant program for StreetHeart residents that encourages neighbors to work together to enhance quality of life within their neighborhood.

Geographic Scope: StreetHeart neighborhoods in Eaton County, Michigan. Currently active in at least one neighborhood (Edmond Apartments area) with plans to expand to many communities in Eaton County.

Funder: Funded by ECH collaborative, a local nonprofit organization.

Eligibility:

  • Must involve collaboration between at least two different households

  • No individuals may apply for a single household

  • Must be StreetHeart neighborhood residents

  • Projects must be directed to the greater good of the neighborhood, not for an individual's own home or property
  • Funding Amount: Applicants can request up to $300 per project

    Project Categories: Projects should fall within one or more of the following:

  • Foster neighborhood pride & a sense of belonging

  • Improve the quality of life for neighbors

  • Increase neighborhood capacity, opportunity, or leadership

  • Develop stronger relationships among neighbors and neighborhood groups

  • Build capacity for long-term change built by neighbors working together
  • Example Projects Funded:

  • Bench planters and raised garden beds

  • Dog waste stations

  • Neighborhood social events (ice cream socials, kickball parties)

  • School-community partnerships (flower delivery projects)

  • Neighborhood safety lighting

  • Community gardening initiatives
  • Review Process: A resident review team determines which projects will receive funding based on set criteria for neighborhood enhancements.

    Background: StreetHeart is an initiative of Eaton Community Health (ECH) that provides a Neighborhood Coordinator and brings various resources to help support resident-led projects while enhancing connections between residents and health care, human service and community organizations.

    Application Process

    Steps:
    1. Fill out the StreetHeart Project Award Application form
    2. Review the StreetHeart Project Award Guidelines
    3. Submit application through the online portal

    Required Information:

  • Team of at least two different households applying together

  • Description of the neighborhood project

  • How the project falls within one or more of the five project categories

  • Budget request (up to $300)

  • How the project will benefit the neighborhood
