Steinmetz Scholarships for Fieldwork Participation for Active/Reserve Military or Veterans Grant

The Steinmetz Scholarships for Fieldwork Participation support U.S. military personnel and veterans in archaeological excavations. Established in 2019, these scholarships provide two awards of $2,000 each for participation in ASOR-affiliated projects. ASOR has a long history of funding archaeological research, having awarded over $1 million to more than 900 recipients since 2007. This initiative aims to broaden access to fieldwork opportunities for those who have served in the military.

ASOR plans to award 43 fieldwork participation scholarships of $2,000 each for this year.
In the summer of 2007, ASOR renewed its emphasis on providing funding scholarships that enable individuals to participate in fieldwork in Western Asia and the wider Mediterranean, and also by awarding grants to support the archaeological projects themselves. Since 2007, ASOR has awarded well over $1 million to more than 900 researchers and students with excavation grants, dig and survey scholarships, travel scholarships, and other research fellowships.
Steinmetz Scholarships for Fieldwork Participation for Active/Reserve Military or Veterans
Established in 2019 through annual gifts from Charles Steinmetz, these scholarships support the participation of U.S. military personnel or veterans in archaeological excavations. Two scholarships for $2,000 will be awarded this year to participants on any ASOR-affiliated archaeological project.

Eligibility

Applicants must be U.S. active or reserve military or veterans. The successful applicants will be expected to join ASOR before funds are dispersed, but applicants do not need to be members to apply.ASOR supports research in archaeology and related fields in the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Mediterranean and Western Asia.
