Stanley Gray Fellowship Grant

The Stanley Gray Fellowship supports exceptional candidates pursuing significant research at the Doctorate or post-Doctorate level in marine engineering, science, and technology. Established from a trust fund created by Stanley Gray, the fellowship recognizes outstanding potential in these fields. Applicants must be IMarEST members with relevant degrees and research topics. The fellowship also celebrates Gray's legacy through the Stanley Gray Series of prestige lectures, highlighting advancements in marine sciences.

Awarded to a selected candidate judged to be of outstanding potential to enable a significant piece of work to be undertaken at Doctorate (PhD) or post-Doctorate level in a relevant topic.
Stanley Gray was the Chief Mechanical Engineer at the Port Directorate of Basra during the 1950s & 60s. When he died in 1973, he left half his estate to be held by the Institute in trust to create the Stanley Gray Fund.
Stanley expressed the wish that the money should be awarded via a scholarship or prize to wherever the Institute saw distinction in marine engineering.
This remit has been expanded following due process to include marine science and technology. The Stanley Gray Series of prestige lectures, launched in 2002, is held to mark his generosity to, and patronage, of the Institute.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a member of the IMarEST in an appropriate category of membership. Applicants should normally have obtained a relevant engineering or scientific degree or equivalent.The topic of the proposed piece of research must be relevant within the fields of marine engineering, science & technology.
