Geographic Scope: Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia metropolitan region

Mission: Support women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals who have struggled severely throughout the pandemic and the ongoing fight for racial and gender justice.

Focus Areas

• Sexual assault and domestic violence prevention and survivor support
• Culture-specific survivor support and advocacy
• Support for care workers (family childcare providers, early childhood educators, in-home health aides, medical aides)
• Violence prevention
• Community safety initiatives

Background

Women, girls, and gender-expansive youth of color in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas face disproportionate safety concerns:
• Girls 16-19 are 4 times more likely to be victim-survivors of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault than the general population
• In DC, 50% of women have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner
• 39% of DC women have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner
• During the pandemic, agencies saw increased need with insufficient resources
