Overview

Ohio Department of Health and Human Services The Ohio Department of Health is the state agency responsible for advancing the health and well-being of all Ohioans by preventing disease, promoting good health, and assuring access to quality health care and public health services across the state. Guided by a vision of equitable, effective, and evidence-based public health, ODH works to transform Ohio’s public health system through partnerships, data-driven policy, and community engagement. Its funding priorities include disease prevention and control, health promotion and wellness, environmental health and safety, health equity and access initiatives, emergency preparedness and response, and programs that strengthen public health infrastructure and improve population health outcomes. ST26 Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention Continuation Solicitation The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) administers the STI Prevention Program to prevent and control sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, which disproportionately impact women, adolescents, newborns, and men who have sex with men (MSM). The program addresses excessive morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs through a comprehensive, data-driven public health approach. Key components include surveillance and data management (mandatory reporting and targeted response under Ohio Administrative Code), routine screening for high-risk populations supported by federal funds, and treatment support, including provision of no-cost medications to eligible clinics in accordance with CDC treatment guidelines. The program also strengthens partner services and case investigation, with Disease Intervention Specialists conducting interviews, referrals, and follow-up to reduce transmission. Additionally, ODH supports community prevention and education efforts by providing technical assistance, training, educational materials, condoms, and program guidance to local health departments and healthcare providers. Through these coordinated strategies, the program aims to reduce STI transmission and improve population health outcomes statewide.
