Chlamydia Performance Improvement Project

Focus Areas:

  • Improve chlamydia testing rates in Arizona

  • Increase screening rates for chlamydia in young women under age 25

  • Identify current barriers to screening

  • Develop solutions tailored to each unique agency

  • Reduce pelvic inflammatory disease and associated infertility
  • Project Details:

  • Working with 9 community-based safety-net provider agencies across Arizona

  • Partner agencies include: El Rio, Native Health, Desert Senita, and other Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)

  • Based on previous performance improvement work (late 1990s) through ADHS Infertility Prevention Project (IPP)
  • Previous Success (1990s-2000s):

  • Initial project with 8 agencies improved chlamydia testing rates from ~50% to 78-99%

  • Six agencies achieved screening rates above 85% goal
  • Project Methodology:

  • Identify challenges and opportunities for improvement

  • Rank barriers by impact level (high/low)

  • Use priority matrix and Test of Change diagrams
