Overview

St. Paul's Scholarship

Overview: General scholarship open to students pursuing higher education, providing financial assistance to help them achieve their academic goals.

Geographic Scope: Cedar Rapids, Iowa area

Eligibility:

  • Must be a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or a participant in the church's ministries

  • Must be pursuing post-secondary education in an accredited college, university, community college, or vocational or technical school

  • Programs not meeting described criteria may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Award Details:

  • Minimum of $1,000 per award

  • 1-3 scholarships available annually

  • Includes five named scholarships: Fran and Stan Richardson ($1,000), Dr. Mary E. Wilson ($1,000 for education majors), Robert James and Grace M. Noonan ($1,000 for Cedar Rapids Washington or Jefferson High School graduates), Joel Hermann ($2,500 for Kennedy High School graduates, preference for education majors), and Mahlke Family (amount varies, preference for engineering majors)
  • History: Originated from Cornelius Arnold's estate gift in the mid-1940s to support orphaned children; expanded in subsequent years to support high school graduates and post-secondary students.

    Selection: Foundation Scholarship Committee made up entirely of St. Paul's UMC members

    Notification: All applicants notified no later than the last Friday in May each year

    Payment: Made directly to the educational institution

    Application Process

    1. Complete the St. Paul's Scholarship Application form
    2. Submit all supporting documentation
    3. Deadline: Application and all supporting documentation must be postmarked or received no later than April 15 each year
    4. Submit to St. Paul's United Methodist Church Foundation
