Overview

St. Joseph Foundation Grant Program

Funder: St. Joseph Foundation (Archdiocese of Seattle)

Geographic Scope: Western Washington (Archdiocese of Seattle jurisdiction)

Background: Established August 5, 2021, the St. Joseph Foundation connects faith with charitable giving to provide long-term support for the Church's mission and the Catholic community in Western Washington. Grants are approved twice yearly by the Board of Directors—spring and fall cycles.

Funding Priorities

  • Catholic Initiatives: Support beliefs, teachings, and spirit of the Catholic Church while addressing spiritual and social needs of the Catholic community in Western Washington. Supports Catholic nonprofit organizations and general Archdiocesan needs.
  • Pastoral Ministries: Advance archdiocesan pastoral ministries supporting missionary discipleship, Catholic social teaching, and initiatives to spread the Gospel. Includes special priorities such as environmental initiatives noted in Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato Si'.
  • Formation/Education: Promote ongoing education and faith formation for lay ministers, deacons, seminarians, and priests in support of advancing the Church's mission in Western Washington.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a Catholic or Catholic-affiliated organization within the Archdiocese of Seattle
  • Must be a 501(c)(3) organization OR have a fiscal sponsor with valid fiscal agreement
  • Previously funded organizations must have submitted final reports and wait 12 months from last decision/payment date before reapplying
  • Cannot apply for fundraising, deficit financing, or debt reduction

    #### Application Timeline

    • Spring Cycle: Application deadline March 15; Board meets in April; notifications expected by late April
    • Fall Cycle: Application deadline September 15; Board meets in October; notifications expected by late October

    - Organization name and contact information (physical and mailing addresses)
    - Organization type (Parish, Catholic Organization, or Other Catholic Affiliated)
    - Primary grant contact name, title, phone, and email
    - Website/URL

    2. Organizational Information:
    - Number of paid full-time employees/contractors
    - Number of paid part-time employees/contractors
    - Number of volunteers
    - 501(c)(3) status or fiscal sponsor agreement (if applicable)

    3. Project/Program Details:
    - Project name
    - Funding type selection (Program Support or General Operating Support)
    - Requested amount
    - Mission/purpose statement and connection to Archdiocese of Seattle mission and vision
    - Clear goals and objectives
    - Evaluation methodology (250-word limit)

    4. Impact Statement:
    - Anticipated impact of the project
    - Number of individuals to be impacted and how
    - How it furthers the Catholic Church's mission in the Archdiocese of Seattle
    - Community-wide benefits

    5. Financial Documentation:
    - Project or operating budget (upload or written)
    - Funds raised to date, broken down by:
    - Grants received
    - Individual donations received
    - In-kind donations received
    - Fees received
    - Other sources received
    - Pending funds by category
    - Explanation of funding sources and uses

    6. Supporting Documentation:
    - Statement of Support: Letter or statement from third party explaining:
    - Support for the project/program
    - Confirmation of ability to deliver on promises
    - Persuasive reasons for foundation support
    - Up to 4 additional supporting files (photos, work estimates, etc.)
    - Fiscal agreement (if applicable)

    7. Qualifications Section:
    - Confirmation of previous St. Joseph Foundation funding (if applicable) and final report submission
    - Attestation of Catholic or Catholic-affiliated status
    - 501(c)(3) confirmation or fiscal sponsor information

    8. Additional Information:
    - Brief statement on project sustainability if funding is not received (250-word limit)
    - Feedback on application completion time

    #### Submission Requirements

    • All information must be accurate and attested as true by applicant
    • Applicant must be authorized to act on behalf of the organization
    • JavaScript-enabled browser required to complete online form
    • Organizations must complete 2024 Grant Evaluation Summary by March 15, 2024 or become ineligible for future funding
