Special Circumstances Scholarship - Students in Student Loan Default Status

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Matriculated in a KVCC program of study
  • Maine resident, eligible for in-state tuition
  • Demonstrated unmet financial need (FAFSA methodology)
  • Only enrolled in courses required for the KVCC program of study
  • Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.0
  • Must create official student loan repayment and Title IV reinstatement plan
  • Must make initial payment according to repayment plan terms before scholarship disbursement
  • Must continue monthly payments on time according to repayment terms
  • Payments must be made voluntarily (not through garnished wages or withheld taxes)
  • Must keep paying on time according to repayment plan terms
  • If payment is late, missed, or does not meet terms, student will not receive scholarship in future semester

    Award Details

  • Up to $100 per credit hour enrolled
  • Up to $1,200 per semester
  • Up to $1,000 per summer semester
  • Awards made in one semester increments for up to three consecutive semesters
  • Based on final course enrollment after add/drop period
  • If recipient drops a course, scholarship is reduced
  • Adding a course does not guarantee scholarship increase

    Important Notes

  • Approval made on case-by-case basis
  • May not be possible due to lack of available funds, lack of student unmet need, and other academic/financial factors
  • Once student is determined eligible for Title IV financial aid, they will no longer be funded through this scholarship
  • Student must submit documentation of loan repayment terms and payment status to KVCC Office of Student Financial Aid before scholarship is applied to each semester's financial aid package
  • Student must meet loan repayment and satisfactory academic progress terms to continue scholarship eligibility in subsequent semesters
  • Student may apply for emergent need financial assistance if available
