SPARC: Single Parents Arriving Ready for College

Overview:
SPARC is an SBCC program that assists single-parent students who are new to college or are returning after a hiatus. The program addresses the unique needs of single parent students to help them be successful in college and achieve their educational goals.

    Target Population

  • Single-parent students new to college
  • Single-parent students returning to college after a hiatus
  • Traditionally under-resourced and underprepared students

    Program Goals

  • Increase the number of single parent students who are successfully employed
  • Increase the number of single parent students who transfer to four-year universities
  • Address unique needs of single parent students

    Program Components

  • Summer bridge program (six weeks)
  • Childcare assistance
  • Childcare scholarships
  • Other necessary support to help students thrive
  • College preparation information and success guidance

Partners with the SBCC Foundation to provide childcare scholarships and other necessary assistance.
