Smallwood Young Investigator Fellowship Grant

The Smallwood Young Investigator Fellowship, established in memory of Craig Smallwood, PhD, RRT, supports emerging researchers in pediatric respiratory therapy. It provides funding up to $5,000 to help candidates gain mentorship, hands-on experience, and essential resources to launch their research projects. Ideal applicants are members of the American Association for Respiratory Care, either at the thesis phase of their education or recently graduated. This initiative aims to foster growth in the field of respiratory health.

Research Grants
Research funds are available to qualified investigators in the field of respiratory care.
This fellowship is supported by colleagues and an endowment to the American Respiratory Care Foundation and designed to provide the awardee with experiences, mentoring and funds to those serious about becoming mature investigators.
Funding
Funding will be provided to applicant employer or university as a grant. The money can be used to support the personal and professional growth of the individual young investigator. The SYIF committee envisioned the majority of the funds would be used to connect and find mentors, obtain some hands-on experience, and supply small equipment or supplies to help start the first project. This award is generally limited to $5,000; these funds are designed to supplement other forms of support of the investigator.

Eligibility

Ideal candidates are active members of the American Association for Respiratory Care who are at the thesis or dissertation phase of their graduate education or 3 years post the competition of their masters of science or PhD/DSc.
