Small Business Grants

Overview: Critical grants distributed to independently owned island businesses to help them recover and rebuild following hurricanes and natural disasters.

Geographic Scope: Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Florida

Funding Details:

  • Award amount: Up to $5,000 per business

  • As of August 1, 2026: 37 independently owned island businesses have benefited from $215,000 distributed from the Sanibel-Captiva Recovery Fund

  • 15 additional businesses in pipeline for support

  • Total raised through matching challenge: $266,000 (exceeded $125,000 matching gift challenge)

    • Focus: Recovery and rebuilding following Hurricanes Ian, Helene, and Milton

    Status: Ongoing with rolling applications

    Administration: FISH of SanCap administers the program with support from Sanibel Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce

  • Free business consulting through Florida SBDC at FGCU (held every second Friday)

    1. Submit Application: Complete application through FISH of SanCap or with assistance from Sanibel Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce
    2. Application Review: FISH of SanCap reviews applications for eligibility
    3. Award Distribution: Approved businesses receive grants of up to $5,000
    4. Business Support: Optional participation in free SBDC consulting and Business Resource Fairs
