Since 1983, the Community Foundation has awarded over $11.9 million in scholarships from 136 funds established by generous individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits to help area students pursue an education and establish rewarding careers. Skip Thavenet Scholarship Established in honor of Louis “Skip” Thavenet, proprietor of Thavenet Machine Company in Pawcatuck, a family owned and operated company founded in 1921 by the late John Thavenet. This fourth-generation company is proud to serve the local area in machining, welding, and design, and is the hometown supplier of steel, welding supplies and industrial gases. The family carries on the tradition and pride of workmanship passed down from generation to generation. Scholarship awards are paid to colleges by August 1.

Eligibility

For residents of all 42 towns and the RI towns of Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond and Westerly, with first preference for students from Stonington and North Stonington, CT and RI towns. For students pursuing studies at an accredited community college, technical or trade school or in a certification program in a technical field.
