Skip Thavenet Scholarship Grant

The Skip Thavenet Scholarship, established by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, honors Louis "Skip" Thavenet and supports students from 42 towns in Connecticut and Rhode Island. This scholarship, which awards approximately $500, aims to assist those pursuing education in technical fields, particularly in welding, manufacturing, and construction management. Since 1983, the foundation has awarded over $11.9 million, demonstrating its commitment to fostering local talent and providing educational opportunities.

Since 1983, the Community Foundation has awarded over $11.9 million in scholarships from 136 funds established by generous individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits to help area students pursue an education and establish rewarding careers.
Established in honor of Louis “Skip” Thavenet, proprietor of Thavenet Machine Company in Pawcatuck, a family owned and operated company founded in 1921 by the late John Thavenet. The family carries on the tradition and pride of workmanship passed down from generation to generation.
Scholarship awards are paid to colleges by August 1.

Eligibility

For residents of all 42 towns and the RI towns of Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond and Westerly, with first preference for students from Stonington and North Stonington, CT and RI towns. For students pursuing studies at an accredited community college, technical or trade school or in a certification program in a technical field.
