Overview

SITC Cancer Immunotherapy Fellowship

Award Amount: $100,000

Term: One Year (September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027)

Purpose: This fellowship supports clinical or translational research in cancer immunotherapy and will be awarded to an MD, PhD or combined MD/PhD.

    Eligibility

  • Must hold an MD, PhD, or combined MD/PhD degree
  • Must be a SITC member in good standing at time of submission
  • Student memberships eligible (starting at $50)
  • No minimum percentage workday requirement

    Program Details

  • Established through the SITC Forward Fund
  • Helps cultivate the next generation of cancer immunotherapy experts
  • Supports clinical or translational research focus
  • Since 2014, SITC has awarded over $6 million in fellowships to early career investigators
  • Fellowship recipients receive complimentary registration and travel reimbursement to attend the SITC Annual Meeting in the year the fellowship is awarded

How to Apply

Two-Stage Application Process

#### Stage 1: Letter of Intent (LOI)
Deadline: April 15, 2026

Required Documents:
1. Completed Application Form
2. Abstract (1 page)
- Outline project's aims, expected outcomes, and overall impact
- Include team members
- Explain how this award will assist in securing next grant
3. Biosketch/Credentials (up to 5 pages)
- Use NIH Biosketch format (non-fellowship format)
- Include "Additional Information: Research Support" section at end
4. Mentor's Statement of Support (maximum 2 pages)
- Clearly present applicant's role and academic appointments
- Describe sponsor's role in proposed research and support plans
- Address plans and potential for applicant to develop into independently funded investigator

Review: Awards Review Committee determines which applicants advance to Stage 2 (notification in mid-May)

#### Stage 2: Full Application
Submission Period: May 15 – June 5, 2026
Notification: July 2026

Required Documents:
1. Applicant's Statement of Purpose (maximum 2 pages)
- Outline award and career objectives toward cancer immunotherapy research
- Specify current and future cancer immunotherapy research objectives
- Detail further training requested by candidate

2. Mentor's Biosketch (maximum 5 pages)
- Use NIH Biosketch format

3. Institutional Letter of Support (maximum 2 pages)
- Written on letterhead by department head, dean, or senior institutional member
- Explain applicant's relationship with institution
- Detail nature and extent of institutional support for proposed research (laboratory space, financials, other resources)

4. Research Plan and Budget
- Formatting: Calibri 11pt, Single Spaced, 1-inch margins (figures don't count toward page limits)
- Content sections:
- Specific aims (maximum 1 page)
- Background and significance (maximum 1.5 pages)
- Preliminary results if applicable (maximum 1.5 pages)
- Methods and procedures (maximum 4 pages)
- Anticipated outcomes (maximum 1 page)
- Long-range objectives (maximum 0.5 page)
- References (no limit)
- Research project budget (maximum 1 page)
- Budget Requirements: Fellowship amount must be entirely designated to salary, including support for equipment and supplies. Budget must outline anticipated spend among salary, research, and associated costs. Indirect costs not covered.

5. Facilities (maximum 1 page)
- Formatting: Calibri 11pt, Single Spaced, 1-inch margins
- Description of facilities needed for research and training

6. Two Personal References (maximum 2 pages each)
- Letters of recommendation from two people familiar with candidate's qualifications
- Applicants encouraged to have two people other than mentor serve as personal references

    Multiple Applications

  • Applicants may apply for multiple fellowships if eligible
  • Separate application required for each fellowship
  • Applicants will only be awarded one fellowship
  • Mentors may support multiple applicants
  • Applicants welcome to list up to two mentors (co-mentors)

    Mentor Information

  • Co-mentors can each submit biosketches and statements of support, or submit joint letter of support
  • SITC encourages mentors to send letters and biosketch directly to applicants for upload to portal

    Membership Requirement

  • Must be SITC member in good standing at time of submission
  • If membership application submitted before April 15 deadline, membership requirement fulfilled (pending approval)
