Program Overview

Launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this program provides specialized utility assistance for older adults (60+) and those with critical medical needs. Silver Lights clients receive one-on-one navigational support through the complex utility assistance process, working with a dedicated staff member to meet their unique technological needs.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be a BGE residential customer
• Must be 60 years of age or older OR have critical medical needs
• Must currently have no power in home OR be in receipt of a turn-off notice from BGE
• Must have made at least four separate payments to BGE utility account over the past year (quick multiple payments in succession do not count)
• Have NOT received a financial grant from the Fuel Fund in the last 365 days
• Understanding that Fuel Fund accepts a limited number of applications each day and daily limits may be reached

What They Fund

• One-time financial grants to help households avoid power disconnection or restore power
• Applicants must pay a portion of their outstanding BGE utility balance

What They Don't Fund

• Ongoing monthly assistance
• Multiple grants within a 12-month period
• Applicants who do not meet the specific eligibility criteria
