Because of the need for public shooting opportunities in South Dakota, GFP established the Shooting Range Grant Program. The Shooting Range Grant Program is a competitive grant program that assists with funding for non-profit organizations or agencies to establish, upgrade, expand, or improve public firearms and archery shooting ranges in South Dakota. Funding for the Shooting Range Grant Program comes from the US Fish and Wildlife Agency’s Wildlife Restoration Program, which is commonly known as Pittman-Robertson Program (P-R). P-R is funded through federal excise taxes on rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammunition and archery equipment.
