NOTE: The online application process is open year round, however funding is awarded only once per year. All applications received August 1 through July 31 will be reviewed in the subsequent August and funding decisions will be communicated in the subsequent September. Background Together, Schreiber and the Schreiber Foods Foundation provide support to charitable organizations and programs that address food insecurity and basic needs in our communities. As a leader in the food industry, we’re excited to be able to give back beyond funding so we can maximize our impact and do good through food. We focus our philanthropic support in areas of food and other basic needs, defined as education, health & well-being, housing, and self-sufficiency. We’re committed to making a difference in the communities where our partners work, live and play. One of the ways we show that commitment is by helping charitable organizations do good in the world. We provide funding opportunities through community grants, and encourage nonprofits in our communities to apply. Funding Areas Food InsecurityBasic Needs Defined As:EducationHealth & Well-BeingHousingSelf-Sufficiency Evaluation Criteria In general, strong programs will: Align with one of Schreiber’s defined areas of giving.Address a well-defined need with a clearly defined action to meet the need/opportunity.Improve the quality of life for the community or its residents.Use innovative approaches to address community issues.Help the organization become self-sufficient.Use partnerships or collaborations with other non-profits or other entities to leverage impact.Be feasible and likely to succeed.Demonstrate a reasonable level of risk.Propose appropriate and reasonable budgetary items.Attract additional funding and leverage resources.Create well-defined, meaningful and measurable project outcomes and methods to report actual outcomes. (Measurement complexity should be relative to the size of the grant request.)Have long-term impact, especially relative to cost.Have a positive standing with Schreiber Foods regarding previously received grants, including the complete and timely submission of required grant reports about measured impact, activities, and expenditures within one year of an award. Strong proposals will usually request $1,000 to $100,000.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:Be a non-profit organization (exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code and not be classified as a 509(a)(3) supporting organization) or be a governmental body, such as a school or municipality. Serve the people of Brown, Calumet, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano or Winnebago counties in Wisconsin, or be located in or serve one of the counties where a Schreiber facility is located.Conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, gender stereotypes, national origin, ancestry, religion, creed, age, disability, marital status, military or veteran’s status.Sponsorship requests for events and fundraisers must meet the following criteria to be considered for funding:Sponsorship requests should be dedicated to fundraisers, special events or similar opportunities that provide substantial impact to the community.Not be a pass-through event/fundraiser (one group raising funds for another cause).

Ineligibility

The Schreiber Community Grants program generally does not fund:Annual appeals, sponsorships or other fundraising activities and events.Religious activities or programs that serve or promote, or appear to serve or promote, specific religious organizations, groups, denominations, or religious beliefs.Individuals.Debt retirement, deficit financing, reduction of an operating deficit or replenishment of resources used to pay for such purposes.Lobbying or legislative activities.Scholarships or scholarship programs at educational institutions.Programming or expenses occurring before the grant is awarded.Efforts substantially serving people outside of the communities where a Schreiber facility is located.
