Schooled on Freedom Grant

Overview: Grant program for K-12 schools and school districts to support field trips to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

Geographic Scope: Schools and school districts (appears to be open to all)

Focus Areas:

  • Field trip support for K-12 students

    Application Process

    1. Applicant Eligibility: Must be completed by school principal or administrator with access to:
    - Title 1 status information
    - Number of students on free/reduced lunch
    - General school demographics

    2. Required Information:
    - Applicant name and contact information (email, phone)
    - School/district name and teacher name(s) applying
    - School enrollment size
    - Title 1 eligibility status
    - Percentage of enrollment on free/reduced lunch
    - Percentage of students of color in enrollment

    3. Required Documents:
    - Letter of Intent from Principal
    - Must be on official school letterhead
    - Must include administration signature
    - Downloadable template available on website
    - Upload as PDF or Word document (up to 2 files)

    4. Additional Selections:
    - Indicate interest in any supplementary programs:
    - Implicit Bias Training
    - Professional Development
    - Educator-specific workshops

    5. Submit:
    - Complete online form
    - Provide school/principal email address for communication
    - Submit form through website portal

    6. Post-Award:
    - Complete After Visit Survey within timely manner following field trip
    - Survey instructions sent to primary contact who scheduled trip
