Savannah Community Foundation The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc. benefits donors, donees and the community by providing a safe, simple, inexpensive and tax efficient vehicle for philanthropic capital formation, investment and distribution to public charities. Founded in 1956 and reorganized in 1986 as a "community foundation," the Community Foundation is an umbrella philanthropic organization through which individuals, families, businesses and charities support the well being of our community and charitable and educational institutions throughout the USA. The Community Foundation is a nonprofit Georgia corporation classified as a Section 501(c)(3) public charity by the IRS and invests in solutions to the area's civic, educational, health and human services, and charitable needs as suggested by it donors and determined by its Board of Directors. Typically, the Community Foundation grants over $7,250,000 to more than 250 charitable organizations and awards over $200,000 in scholarships each year. Immediate Needs Fund Grants from this fund may be made only for "Immediate Needs." "Immediate Needs" includes emergency needs, as well as other unanticipated expenses. "Immediate Needs" does not include capital expenditures, capital campaigns, routine recurring expenses or normal program expenses. Normally grants will not exceed $5,000 per grant (typical amounts granted are less than $1,500), and normally no organization will be granted more than $5,000 total within any twelve (12) month period.
